Warpaint

Chili Pepper Flea vindt 'The Fool' (2010) van Warpaint een subliem album. Zijn collega Pepper John Frusciante vindt dat bijna zeker ook. Hij deed in 2007 namelijk de eindmix van de eerste EP van de vier dames uit Los Angeles. Dat kleinood leidde naar een contract met het Britse platenlabel Rough Trade (Anthony and The Johnsons, The Strokes, The Libertines) en een opgemerkte verschijning op het showcasefestival South By Southwest in Austin (USA). Warpaint zat meteen op rozen. Er werd uitgekeken naar hun debuut 'The Fool' (2010). Als bonus namen de Britse journalisten hen op in de BBC Sound Of 2011, de - zwaar gehypte en daarom vrij doeltreffende - lijst met de meest beloftevolle artiesten. Warpaint woont muzikaal niet zover van The XX maar is toch anders. Veel oudere raakpunten zijn de slome postpunk van ESG en The Slits en de zweverigheid van Cocteau Twins. 'Smooth - smokey' schrijven ze zelf op Facebook. En zo is het. (Rock Werchter 2011)
