Queens of the Stone Age
Vrienden van Rock Werchter, vrienden van alle festivalgangers QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE hebben hun komst naar Werchter bevestigd. Op donderdag 30 juni spelen ze op de Main Stage. Queens of the Stone Age staan dan voor pure rock 'n roll. Dat maakt de groep bijzonder geliefd. En gelukkig dat iemand het allemaal een beetje bijhoudt op Wikipedia. Met de huidige leden erbij geteld, heeft QOTSA ondertussen ongeveer 40 tijdelijke en losvaste leden versleten. Slechts 1 Queen is al aan boord sinds 1997: Josh Homme, zanger, gitarist, motor. Hij gebruikt dat gevoel van tijdelijkheid als brandstof. En kijk: na 15 jaar a) is Queens Of The Stone Age er nog altijd en b) is de groep een van de eerste antwoorden op de vraag 'Een echte rockgroep, waar denk je aan?'. Alles staat momenteel in het teken van een nieuwe start. De groep heeft al een paar jaar niet gespeeld. De leden weken onder meer uit naar Eagles Of Death Metal en The Dead Weather terwijl Homme zich, samen met Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) en John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) vermeide met Them Crooked Vultures. Ondertussen werden de twee eerste albums - in omgekeerde chronologische volgorde - heruitgebracht. Nummer # 2 'Rated R' (2000) zonder al te veel poeha in 2010, het titelloze debuut uit 1998 begin dit jaar met een begeleidende tournee die alleen maar kleinere zalen aandoet. Zoals het destijds was. Waarna ze in een hogere versnelling en met wellicht nieuw materiaal in de rugzak door de zomer razen. God save the Queens! (Rock Werchter 2011)
