Mona

Jong. Amerikaans. Vetkuiven. Ergens tussen Rocket From The Crypt en Stereophonics. En ook tussen Kings Of Leon en U2. Maar dan eerder in de richting van The Clash. Mona moet een van de - die was onvermijdelijk natuurlijk - toetjes van het lopende jaar worden. Het viertal staat bijvoorbeeld - samen met Warpaint, ook op Werchter 2011 - als enige Amerikaanse naam in de BBC Sound of 2011, de fameuze jaarlijst met de meest belovende nieuwe artiesten. Ze komen uit Nashville en leerden muziek maken - zie ook Kings Of Leon - in de kerk. Rock is volledig uit den boze. De moeder van drummer draait echter stiekem Creedence Clearwater Revival thuis en laat het kwaad geschieden. Mona wil een monster worden. De soundtrack van een nieuwe generatie. Zoals Led Zeppelin en Nirvana dat voor hen waren. Zegt voorman Nick Brown: "I want to be as big as possible and loud as possible and have as many people there as possible." Hun eerste album heet simpelweg 'Mona' en telt simpelweg 10 nummers. De rest wordt zeker en vast geschiedenis. (Rock Werchter 2011)
