Hurts

Hurts weet zich al zeker verzekerd van de prijs voor de Best Geklede Act van Rock Werchter 2011. Theo Hutchcraft en Adam Anderson zien eruit alsof door Anton Corbijn gevraagd zijn om te poseren voor het juiste modemerk. Die perfecte snit laat ogenblikkelijk terugdenken aan de gloriejaren van Blancmange, Depeche Mode en Visage. Hun muziek trouwens ook. De stamboom van Hurts voert linea recta naar de melodieuze electropop uit de eerste helft van de jaren 80. Toen synthesizers nog nieuw en omstreden waren. Want was dat allemaal wel live wat eruit kwam? Hurts stamt uit Manchester, de stad van Factory Records (Joy Division, New Order, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark). En ook dat sijpelt door. Op hun aftrap 'Happiness' (2010) kregen ze al meteen bijstand van Kylie Minogue. Het album doet het erg goed in alle windrichtingen van Europa en heeft grote hits ('Better Than Love', 'Wonderful Life') aan boord. Hun eerste passages in de Botanique en de AB waren ogenblikkelijk uitverkocht. Ingangsexamen: grote onderscheiding. (Rock Werchter 2011)
